So I sold a $10 anime poster on ebay about a month and a half ago. The buyer was from overseas, so of course it's going to take a long time to get there because of the global pandemic. Warnings of shipping delays are plastered all over ebay. It's to be expected as this has been the norm for months.

No. Not for this person. He wants his $10 weeb poster and he wants it NOW. He wants me to hurl the poster across oceans just so he doesn't have to wait. He thinks he's so special that the virus will never effect the shipping process from one country to the other for his anime merch.

He contacted me about 2 weeks after I shipped the poster, demanding he gets a refund in 4 days. (He said he waited a month, but he grossly exaggerated how long he waited, so it was pretty laughable at first) I responded by saying shipping delays are common now, especially with overseas stuff. I even told him I sympathized with the wait, telling him I had to wait 3 months for items I bought myself to come in from Australia, but they eventually came, safe and sound... so just be patient.

A while goes by and I thought he understood, reflecting on how impatient he was being at first and to wait it out. (All the while the tracking number is being updated, all be it very slowly) Yesterday he messaged me that he never got the item and demanded that he get a refund NOW.

I messaged him back again, explaining once more about shipping delays, even a screenshot of the tracking, in case he didn't understand how that worked. -_- While I wrote the reply I even got a message from ebay saying the package left the global shipping center, so it's on it's way to the other country. I told him to please be patient and that I have no control over the shipping process.

Still not good enough. He messaged me back again today, ignoring everything I said and told me I just lost a customer.

Excuse me???

I messaged him back again restating things I already said, putting in capital letters BECAUSE OF A GLOBAL PANDEMIC shipping was going to be slow and that he would get his $10 anime poster in time.

Not even 10 minutes later I got a message from ebay saying that he got his money refunded because he didn't receive his item... Wow. -_-

I'm not going to let that slide. I reported him for abusing the refunding system and wrote in the comments of my report about the messages and to look at the tracking to see that the item in question is still on the way. And going so far as to say he doesn't seem to understand that there are shipping delays because of COVID. To top it all off, I just looked at the tracking and the item is now in the buyer's country. UGH.

I just can't believe someone is that selfish and can't grasp the way the world is right now. I wanted to say so many things to this person, but I took the high ground (just like Obi-Wan haha) and stayed pretty civil.

The whole exchange is just BAFFLING to me. I had to get it off my chest. Have any of you had this kind of situation... Especially during times like this?? I just can't believe this person is for real.

What you describe is basically what I am expecting to get soon...I started selling again on eBay not very long ago. The 'timing' seemed right because right now I work from home (saves travel time) and basically everything I wanted to do (2 planned vacations, 2 conventions visits, many days out, concerts, gatherings etc.) was cancelled, so I have the time now to make pictures and listings etc.

My listings are also plastered with how the shipping times currently are (2-3 months for standard shipment and 1-2 months for priority shipment), but I just know that there are going to be a lot of complaints and probably also multiple eBay cases (that I will lose). So yeah I thought about the risks...but still went for it. Even if every once in a while someone gets refunded against my will, it's better than never having sold anything at all. I know life later on will get way too busy for me to be selling all these goods.

So anyway I am also waiting for my first REEEEEEEEEE-person that probably is going to be also about something like...$10. :') I actually hope it's about something $10 and not something expensive.

Anyway, I feel for you. Luckily I have also been selling to (and I hope you as well) some really kind and patient collectors, so coming across those kind of people hopefully also happens to you. :)

I'm just curious btw, but how much shipping did this person pay for the poster? Can't imagine it being affordable, especially if it has tracking. :O

noctisity1 месяц назад#81691494I'm sorry you had to deal with that. Can't tell if they were trying to scam you from the beginning or were just THAT daft. Which honestly wouldn't surprise me because...

I just had to quote this, because I had multiple times people being really daft. I once had a guy opening a PayPal case on me 'because the item did not arrive'. Tracking showed it as arrived. Messages go back and forth a lot of times, eventually PayPal case closed in his victory. Dude messages me a couple of days later "ahaha, seems like there was a 'we missed you'-parcel slip in my mailbox, haha I almost never check my mailbox, teehee!"

ShindoW1 месяц назад#81879331You should call ebay and speak to someone in person. They can fix this for you since you have the tracking number.

How did he even get a refund from eBay? Normally one has to open an Item Not Received case before they'll step in and do that, and that requires tha the item be late - i.e. past the expected delivery date. Was a case opened by the buyer?

sarious Chino is My Life
There are some people in this world who are just incomprehensibly stupid. Never see people that stupid in real life, but they exist.

Situations like this are why I only sell stuff on here and only sell to US (where I live). Way too easy to get scammed on ebay and/or when shipping overseas.

i have a family member who does internet business and he gets this bullshit so many times these days. so many people open claims and disputes even when the tracking says its on the way. some people are just impervious to how the outside world works that they think the pandemic doesnt effect anything. i feel bad for him every time he gets upset about this.

Based on your experience, if I was selling something, I would not offer overseas shipping either. It's just not worth the hassle at this point. agreed

Truffle The Confectionery
From the description it sounds to me like he just wanted a free item.

Not sure why eBay was so quick to refund the money though. They'd usually have to open a dispute and give you time to respond. In my last dispute I gave eBay the tracking information (stating it had arrived in their country) and they closed the case in my favour.
