An Afternoon with Eevee & Friends: GlaceonAn Afternoon with Eevee & Friends: GlaceonReview

Hello everyone! I hope everyone is staying safe and well. I myself have been very tired as of late. I've hit an unlucky streak in quite a few ways, haha. But I'm still chugging along! I hope you all are doing the same as well.

Today I'll be reviewing the next entry in the An Afternoon with Eevee & Friends series (ENTRY #192256), Glaceon (ITEM #947751).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/05/12/2436054.jpeg

Glaceon is one of the two Eeveelutions to be released along with the Sinnoh region, and is the only Eeveelution I have never owned in any game! This figure was $14.99 MSRP on release and is sold out, like all the others before her.

This figure is made by Funko (ENTRY #22723) and is a U.S. Pokemon Center exclusive item.

I got this figure in a couple days ago, and I wasn't too sure on doing a review on this entry, but here I am. I have some strong opinions on this one, so let's hop right to it. Here's some pictures of the box:

Overall, a very simple box, as always!
Let's open her up:

The blister on these is very simple, just the pegs holding it together. Honestly I wish they'd either put tape on them or make more small pegs because almost every time I pull one out it falls right out of the blister.
Outside of the blister !

This time you get my Karna and Arjuna stuff as my background since I was taking pictures of my collection a few days prior. I removed a good chunk of the stuff so I could have room to take pictures, and I caught the lighting just right for this review !

She's very pretty at first glance - I love the concept, but the application is a bit... Underwhelming.

First, I'll do some turnaround photos:

Like I said, very neat concept and very pretty at first glance. It's a wonderful display piece - but as you'll see in the coming photos, it's not one you'll want to look too closely at. Here's some close ups and some notes.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/05/29/2444755.jpeg

I'll start off with the thing I hate the most. The face. Why? Why did they do this to her? :(
My sister, the Eevee collector, picked up this figure and said "Why does it look like that? What's wrong with it? Did you get a defect?" I did not get a defect, all of them look like this. Her face is so... Not for me.

Her eyes are soulless and her mouth looks really wonky and out of place. Honestly, when I first saw this figure in the promotional pictures I thought the picture was fake. The color scheme of the figure itself is great but the face throws it off close up.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/05/29/2444756.jpeg

Some of the areas on her, especially with the darker shades of blue, have this weird texture issue on the edges and I'm not sure why. I don't know if they tried to add something there and it didn't turn out as planned or if it's just a QC issue.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/05/29/2444759.jpeg

Her base, while it is a neat thought, did not turn out well. there's a huge seam problem along where the water and snow separate. The snow kinda looks like melted glue, and when they tried to add the texture, it just ended up looking odd and out of place rather than actual snow.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/05/29/2444765.jpeg

Also, the water is transparent, so you can see the brown parts of the base through the water rather than it being solid blue, and it looks kinda sloppy.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/05/29/2444766.jpeg

There's a slightly visible line on her head much like the others have had, but this one is more visible due to the shininess of this figure in particular. I find that this one is much shinier than the ones before it.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/05/29/2444767.jpeg

Visible seam lines on her neck, but only really on this side. The other sides are fine!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/05/29/2444769.jpeg

Paint bleed on her paws from the dark to light blue. Not visible from far away but definitely visible up close. Also, you can see a seam where it looks like her tail was inserted into the figure.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/05/29/2444764.jpeg

The redeeming quality of this figure? Her tale looks so cleanly cut and sculpted. Actually, the whole sculpt of the figure itself is beautiful, I think it's just the paint that messed her up!

Overall, she is quite pretty and I like that they tried to diversify the base on this one with the ice and snow compared to the plain bases Sylveon and Eevee shared. The sculpt is good, but the QC issues are quite obvious, and the paint definitely didn't help her.

Finally, let's check out her size. I try to use different things every time I review one of the entries in this line because I know a lot of people don't own a bunch of scale figures, so it's hard to get a grasp on figures if all everyone compares things to is other figures. Since I have a wide variety of items in my collection, I like to use them all!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/05/29/2444763.jpeg

Compared to ITEM #693506 (1/8 scale, 7 inches tall), she's quite tiny! Not small small but like, small, you know? Oh, I see Arjuna in the mirror!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/05/29/2444762.jpeg

She's essentially the same height as ITEM #947748, give or take a small amount since Vaporeon's tail is quite large.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/05/29/2444768.jpeg

Finally, she towers over little Reese (ITEM #195258). Oh Reese, when will you come to my island? I miss you and your husband so much! I hope they bring them in with the next update ; w ;

I took a picture of her with Arjuna but my camera decided to focus solely on the background rather than the two figures up front, so they were blurry! It's night time now, so I don't have any light to retake the picture. R.I.P. Arjuna, he will be angry at me again (。>﹏<。)

To summarize, I think this figure is quite good for people who want her for a small display piece among other figures. Like... If you're going to have the whole set on display. Or if she's one of your favorite Pokemon! Please don't let my opinions or nitpicking affect how much you like (or dislike) the figure, though! I think everyone deserves to enjoy what they like in their own right (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)ﻭ

Next I'll be reviewing ITEM #947752, Flareon! My sister is very excited for this figure since Flareon is her favorite. Funko, don't let her down!

Also, I've added a bonus question just to get a general sense of how people feel about these figures and their pricing. I'm seeing a general downward curve in the quality of these compared to ENTRY #170426, which is a bit disheartening. I feel as though since Eeveelutions are quite popular, they have let their QC get a bit messy because they know people will buy them anyways. I won't stop buying them of course, I proxy for people outside of the US who want them and I enjoy writing these reviews every month, but I wish they would pay a bit more attention to littler details. Even if the figure is only $15, haha.

Thank you for reading if you made it this far! Maybe this one was too wordy. If you have any suggestions on how I should improve my future reviews, please leave me a comment or send me a message! Have a wonderful night, or if you're reading this tomorrow, have a wonderful day!

I thought this line was going pretty well until I saw the pictures of this Glaceon. :(

If the pupils had just been shifted a bit more to the side it would have been a lot better...

Nemsy2 месяца назад#78560700Посмотреть спойлерСпрятать спойлерI've noticed that all of these figures in this line have been marked with a 2019 copyright date on the figure itself. All of them must have been made pretty far in advance for them to all have that marking on it when they intended for them to be a 2020 release.
This may also be why they're so limited in quantity - if all of them were made before the line was announced or before the first figure was put up for sale, they may have not had a firm grasp on how many people would want them.

Whoa, that is much farther back than I was expecting. Thank you for clarifying!

FlyingToNowhere2 месяца назад#78472253Either is fine! Though honestly I just wanted to know for personal reasons, but I'll add it to the listing if you'd like too.

I just measured it, it's approximately 4.125 inches tall, 4.9375 inches wide (at the widest point), and 4.8125 inches long!

noctisity2 месяца назад#78406686Thank you for another review! I'm not sure why, but I just really love Glaceon's paw prints in the snow base!
Concerning the quality, I'm curious how far in advance these get manufactured? Pretty much most, if not all, factories for non-essential items were shut down for a period so there was a backlog of orders to get through.
Although slightly different, I purchase from many enamel pin makers and noticed a lot of artists commenting how their newer stock (that was originally backlogged) are having more QC issues -- possibly due to factories trying to rush to catch up?
Not saying that's an excuse for the quality (I'd rather wait longer for a perfect item vs get my items sooner due to a rush job). But I am curious if that is an aspect of it.

Glaceon is a perfect choice for your review since summer is coming soon. I need some ice for the ongoing heat! $15 isn't that bad if you don't mind the quality and just love the character. I might prefer to making the papercraft model for a lot cheaper though because the quality looks nicer!

On second thought, the printer ink is your expensive part. *sigh*

FlyingToNowhere2 месяца назад#78328531Nice review! I don't think it was too wordy, or nitpicky. As for whether it's worth $15 msrp, I guess it's relative. If you compare it to your average $10 funko pop these feel worth the extra, but some $20 prize figures would definitely give more bang for your buck. It does seem like these can get pretty pricy though, Funko is too good at creating that feeling of exclusivity that makes people flock to anything they make limited.
Would you mind measuring the height in inches or cm? It isn't listed on the MFC page.

Thank you! Yeah, I feel as though these justify reviews since they're not standard pops and don't look the same every time, and since they're limited + exclusive, they garner more interest than standard funkos.

I can measure it tomorrow, sure :D Would you rather I update the MFC entry or let you know so you can update it?

Solarstormflare2 месяца назад#78328547I love you nemsy, Glaceon is my favourite pokemon and I'm having a stressful time atm so it was really nice to read this. Sending all the good vibes your way!
Thank you!! I really love seeing positive feedback on my reviews of this series, sometimes I think nobody really cares for them but I love sitting down and talking about them every now and again. Did you get the figure when it released?

Seiki2 месяца назад#78328491Just want to answer the poll a little further.
It's Funko. $15 is only slightly higher than the average Pop figure, and I think we've all seen how hit or miss the QC is on those. They're around Prize-tier and have a price point to match. These are more mass produced in a machine assembly line over the typical Japanese hand-painted figure like we're use to, so I'd expect a more US kids toy quality on average.
Along with that, while I can get worrying about seam lines for major $100 scales, for something like this aimed more at kids or very casual collectors, I'd expect those to stand out a bit more and calling them out on a piece like this feels rather nit-picky.

I'm completely aware that it's Funko !

However, people are allowed to be nit picky with what they spend their money on. Considering the after market prices for these can be quadruple the original prices (ITEM #804801 averages $60 in the aftermarket) and even higher than that (ITEM #804802 averages $100), wanting to know the quality of what you're buying is important to some people. Like you said, paying $100 for a figure warrants worrying over seam lines.

I'm doing these reviews so people who go searching for them in the future will know exactly what they're looking for, and because they're fun to do !
