Because character limit was hit, this is part 2 of my review of Rocket Booster Sanya ITEM #99028 figure. For part 1 see: BLOG #42569

This is a review of a figure that's possed wide-legged, which means you can see her pantyhose, although not her panties. Still, this can be considered NSFW, so I have marked the blog as so!

The Points

Positive
- Huge set! Practically 2-figures-in-1.
- Nice quality paint and sculpt on the figure, it's near perfect.
- Nifty magnet in the head to make sure the rocket launcher stays in place.

Neutral
- Her disproportioned left hand bothers me a bit.
- No shading in the hair on one of the heads.

Negative
- Absolutely an assembly nightmare. I could not get multiple of the display options to work (I'm most disappointed in the Magic Antenna not fitting in any of the options) and still do not feel really confident with my current set-up of this figure as especially the ears seem to be prone to falling.

The Scores

Sculpting 8/10
There are many details like wrinkles sculpted and especially her rocket launcher looks amazing. The movement in the clothes is also amazing.

Painting 9/10
The painting is near-perfect with barely any letdowns.

Posing 7/10
I have to deduct points somewhere for the assembly issues this figure has, and 'posing' seemed to be the best fit. Although both faceplates and the posing of this figure are very in-character for Sanya, it's near impossible to have multiple of the display options without any glue involved.

Base 8/10
A big blue disc like the rest of the set. The metal rods are very sturdy and the transparant parts of the base make it easily blend away in a collection.

Packaging 8/10
Nicely colored box that protects the figure well, it's huge, but so is the figure, there is no wasted space.

Enjoyment 7/10
Although Sanya is my favorite character, my enjoyment of this figure is a bit lower than I expected/hoped as I really wanted to display her with the Magic Antenna which is not possible unless I permanantely damage the figure by glueing. It's also strange how the ears are such a bad fit on both her heads as the figure does not really give you a good option to display them without. Although I adore this figure and character, it leaves me with the thoughts of 'Should I just glue her so she can have the Magic Antenna?' and 'Should I buy a second one, hoping that that one is better, or optionally glue that one instead?'. Those are not really thoughts I want to have after putting a figure on display. I have no regret in buying such a high quality figure of my favorite Strike Witches character, but it seems like Alter ran into quite some issues with designing this figure.

Conclusion

She has a ton of assembly issues, but by itself, the details on this figure are incredibly high and the paint is near flawless. If you are less interested by the Magic Antenna than I am, you will probably have no issue with her. I'm still thinking of one day picking up her Kotobukiya alternative ITEM #9920 , so maybe then I can form an better opinion if this is still the 'best Sanya' or not.

Availability

Both this Sanya and her Kotobukiya counterpart are regularly available on second hand websites. This one is on average 4,5-6,5K yen, which is a steal for how big of an figure this is! Do keep in mind that her huge box will set you back with expensive EMS shipping. The prices of her Kotobukiya counterpart seem to have gone wild recently (I can't remember her being so expensive the last time I checked), so at the moment of writing, you're probably better off sticking to this version or her more basic version ITEM #26563 also done by Alter (although that one goes for more money than the Rocket Booster one reviewed here).

And to finish it!

I recently re-arranged my Strike Witches shelves and am preparing myself for unboxing ITEM #54772 and ITEM #520672 soon.

Upper shelf (I put the figures here who are better looked at from below):

I want to add some more lights to this shelf later, right now I find it a bit dark for the top row figures.

Lower shelf (I put the figures here who are better looked at from eye level):

victorviper (1 месяц назад) #57365317My Sanya figure is ITEM #26563, the original Alter one. Because I like that figure well enough, and they didn't make a matching Eila to go with Rocket Booster Sanya, getting that alternate Sanya was never a super high priority.
Alter Lynette and Perrine are great figures, but IMO the Alter Eila is merely OK. It's well made, but something about it is just...lacking. If I had it to do over again, I might have chosen to get the Koto Eila ITEM #30531 instead, as the Koto Eila has a more interesting and dynamic pose.
ITEM #284 will make an interesting review. I hovered over the link and said "why would that be a complicated figure?" but then I saw the base :).

I might want the original Alter Sanya one day as well, as I'm going to keep this one clothed in the winter coat, so she would be a nice addition. :)

Yeah with both Eila and Minna it might have been better to pick up Koto's versions, but right now I'm committed to the Alter line, so I don't know if I want Eila to be the only one with a different base than the rest. :/ Although I have been thinking (because I got so many big and small Strike Witches figures and items now) to make a seperate shelf for each girl and then it won't matter if they are non-matching. From the ones I mentioned I think I want Perrine the most now. I recently unboxed her Nendoroid and it made me remember how much I like her character. :)

Hehe, it's actually not even the base! It's the ribbons! All those ribbons are a seperate piece and you put one in, the next one falls out, have 2 carefully in and try the 3rd...bam, 2 fall out again. Makes you want to grab the glue, but then she won't fit back in her box anymore! Really frustrating! Her base is not easy either, but it's simple compared to how dramatic those ribbons are... :') I have been thinking about reviewing her as well, as in general it's an very affordable, big and high quality sculpt/paint figure...just...some assembly issues. Similar to this Sanya reviewed here being near perfect except for the assembly being a huge mess.

Maakie (1 месяц назад) #57340962I also was mistaken, I thought you owned Rocket Booster Sanya, but you own the 1.0. I assume the 1.0 is just one big static figure and not anything like this one?

Another 'horrible assembly' figure in my collection is ITEM #284 , I have her in the back of my storage, because I want her to be the last to get unboxed again...

victorviper (1 месяц назад) #57297307You pointed out a number of things I'd never noticed about this figure, like the fit of her ears/antenna, the weird notch in the coat, etc. If Alter had made an Eila in her winter coat to go along with Sanya, I probably would have double dipped for this figure to go with my Sanya 1.0.
I see that ITEM #315078 is still on your wishlist. When I did my review of that figure, you mentioned that you were evaluating whether to get than Sanya-Eila pair. Have you decided?
When you mentioned the complicated nature of Sanya's assembly, I immediately thought of my experience with ITEM #42448. At least Alter included an instruction sheet; Orchid Seed didn't include one with that figure, and she has about 100 parts!

Ah man, an Eila winter coat would have been great! I can only hope right now to find ITEM #116970 affordable one day. I also was mistaken, I thought you owned Rocket Booster Sanya, but you own the 1.0. I assume the 1.0 is just one big static figure and not anything like this one?

ITEM #315078 still has my attention, but as it has shot up in price on the aftermarket, I rather focus on some 'missing' Alter girls in my collection right now like ITEM #78646 , ITEM #61366 or ITEM #78644 , which can all be found for below release price. :) I'm only a bit low on figure budget right now because of some rare things showing up on Suruga-Ya that I really wanted. ;)

ITEM #42448 is also still on my wishlist! I like her design, but then I remember your and other collectors' stories about her assembly. :P At least she hopefully stays together once you assemble her? Another 'horrible assembly' figure in my collection is ITEM #284 , I have her in the back of my storage, because I want her to be the last to get unboxed again...
