Hi, so I recent got three nendoroids that all have been painted over. The nendoroids are ITEM #166619 ITEM #549462 and ITEM #451820. The parts that are painted are as follows:

My question is whether there is a quick and easy way to remove the paint without damaging the paint underneath.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Enamel thinner doesn't affect lacquer paint. But most likely these are painted with acrylics so removing them WILL damage the lacquer paint underneath. Lacquer figure paints do get dissolved both with alcohol and lacquer thinner.

Also, acrylics and enamels do not really dissolve once fully cured, it's more like rubbing them away. These paints weren't made to get dissolved by the same thinner, they literally harden in 24 hours or more and are not as subjected to thinner. Only paint remover truly dissolves them but this stuff is usually based on stronger solvents.

You can only clean these parts and re-paint them. No way to remove just one layer of paint, sadly.

I agree with the comments that say to ask what your friend used to paint these with. Also question if they were sealed with anything!

From painting warhammer figures I've found the best method of paint removal is Simple Green (It's a cleaning solution product :D ). I'll warn you now there is no 'quick' way to do paint removals without totally stripping the paint completely off and possibly damaging the figure.

If you buy the Simple Green and paint strip, I just dunk mini figures in and leave for 24 hours and the painted parts usually slough right off by the next day! Like a brand new figure! But maybe try on a smaller part to see that it doesn't wipe everything off before you try the big hair piece :/

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!!

You should ask your friend what type of paint they used. Gouache? Enamel? Acrylic? Lacquer? Also did they seal it with a top coat?
Depending on the answers, you can select an appropriate thinner to take it away.
Here's an article that mentions paint types and their hierarchy: mikatan.goodsmi...

To take as little risk as possible of damaging the original paint, you'll need to identify the weakest thinner that will do the job (and that does not eat away at plastic).
In any case, always experiment on a small hidden area before doing the full job and let your test sit overnight to make sure that there are no after-effects.

If you don't have any luck with other suggestions, you could try using an acetone on some tissue paper or a qtip for the difficult areas. Just don't overdo it too much since you wanna avoid damage, and try to pick up the paint instead of smudging it.

Hope you find a working solution!

I got them from a friend who was really into customizing their figures.

ghostorb (1 месяц назад) #40012750I've had success with both mineral spirits and citrustrip on figures! Applying a small amount with a q-tip or paper towel seems to do the trick.

Thanks, I shall try this!
