January Loot---Delay or Opportunity?January Loot---Delay or Opportunity?

victorvipervictorviper7 месяцев назадLoot
I had two figures preordered for January, and they both ended up getting delayed. However, they say you should turn setbacks into opportunities, and so in this case since both items got moved to months where I didn't have much of anything ordered, this was a good opportunity to see if I could check some items off of my wishlist.

In the US, two of the big anime shops (Rightstuf and Robert's Anime Corner) do big sales in December, so this month's loot consists of just a couple figures but it has a lot of DVD/Blu-Ray/manga loot.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/victorviper1517367300.jpeg

Those sales gave me a good reason to get caught up on some of the manga series I'm actively reading (Interviews with Monster Girls, Don't Meddle with my Daughter, Girls' Last Tour and the clear card arc of Card Captor Sakura). The other volumes are some one-shot titles that sounded kind of interesting (the Oreimo and Evangelion anthologies and the manga-ization of the Vocaloid song Acute). There was a time when I'd get a media loot like this every month, but now most of my hobby budget has shifted to figures.

One other item I picked up from these sales was the North American localization of Kadokawa's Hatsune Miku Graphics 2 artbook ITEM #55654.

I picked this up because I own a number of these Vocaloid artbooks and I want to vote with my wallet to encourage Udon Entertainment to localize and translate more books like this. This particular book is a rather odd mishmash of a Vocaloid manga (about 25% of the book's 125 pages), some information about various Vocaloid products (the synthesizer software, games, CD's, etc.) and crossover projects (about 25%), and a number of illustrations of Miku and the gang (about half the book).

This book was released in Japan in late 2010, so a lot of the product information is not exactly fresh, but I didn't realize they did this Vocaloid-iDOLM@STER crossover!

It was kind of funny to read about a PSP game in the year 2018! I used to love my PSP...

About half the book features illustrations of the Vocaloid characters by various different artists. It's always fun to see different takes on the characters.

Now, getting to the AmiAmi portion of the loot, their January postcard features Amico and Lilco engaging in some type of New Year's revelry.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/victorviper1517367302.jpeg

One of the great things about AmiAmi's preowned section is sometimes they slip interesting non-figure goods in there. Every now and then, you'll see clear files, PSP games, posters, and other neat older stuff in their preowned section, and so the first item in this loot is an item I didn't expect to find while browsing for figures, a Clow Card set ITEM #47135 from the much-beloved Card Captor Sakura series.

The set appeared to be unopened, but I was kind of alarmed to see that big yellow sticker plastered on the front of the book! Fortunately, the backing on the sticker was not all that sticky, and it was easily removed with no residue left behind.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/victorviper1517367576.jpeg

Yep, that looks like the Clow Book, all right.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/victorviper1517367572.jpeg

Inside, there is a reference card with a list of all the cards in the set. I took a few minutes to translate some of that text with the help of my smartphone and Google Translate, and all that text is supposed to explain the function of each card, although in some cases it was less than enlightening.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/victorviper1517367579.jpeg

For example, Google Translate translated the text under the Shadow card as "you can manipulate the shadows". You don't say :)?

It looks like the text inside the book's cover is a very brief rehash of the CCS plot and the history of the Clow Cards.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/victorviper1517367581.jpeg

While I was going through all the cards, I was slightly surprised how easily I could recall all of the various CCS episodes where each card was either captured or where it was used to defeat the rogue card of the week. Each of the cards below played a major role in some of my favorite CCS episodes. Do you remember them all :)?

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/victorviper1517367583.jpeg

The cards are made from a very sturdy stock, and while they are slightly wider than a standard playing card, they are much taller. The shot below is one of the Clow Cards with a standard playing card.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/victorviper1517367585.jpeg

I'd always kind of wanted a set of these cards, and when I saw this set for half the original price, I was feverishly reaching for the mouse so I could click the "add to cart" button and check out before someone else grabbed it! That's happened to me several times...

I originally had the Clow Book waiting to ship with the other item in my January AmiAmi order ITEM #500291, but then Sonico got delayed (to May! What's up with that?), so that meant I had seven days before the payment deadline to find a select pre-owned figure or two to throw in with the Clow Cards.

I like Christmas figures, and I like Rin Kagamine even more, so I decided to add a Sega Prize figure of Rin-chan in holiday mode ITEM #440641 to my order.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/victorviper1517367685.jpeg

I've got a few of these Sega Prizes that are designated SPM (Super Premium), and generally they've lived up to the billing. All of them I've obtained generally are much better in quality than the typical prize, and they are quite large in scale (approximately 1/7 scale), to boot. This Rin was only 1600 yen, and this is really a lot of figure for not much money!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/victorviper1517367687.jpeg

Both sides of the box had these perforated circles punched out, so I guess Rin's previous owner won her in a crane game and traded her in? I can't imagine you'd get very much for a figure that AmiAmi can flip for 1600 yen and still make a profit...

Finally, we've got an item that had been on my wish list for a long time that was languishing in AmiAmi's preowned section, Petit Jeuness' Kurumi ITEM #76879.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/victorviper1517367846.jpeg

I'd kind of had my eye on Kurumi for a while, but she was fetching rather expensive prices (~9000-11000 yen) secondhand, and that was simply more than I was willing to pay, even though I really like Kantoku's ENTRY #23703 art style. However, AmiAmi had this one that they had graded "C" for only 6600 yen, and their explanation was that the bonus item was missing, and the figure itself was B grade. For that price I was willing to bite, as in my experience most bonus items aren't all they're cracked up be and most of them just end up stored away anyway.

To my surprise, Kurumi showed wrapped in plastic holding *something* together with the box. That something was this glossy cardboard stand-up. The product tag on the figure clearly said C/B and AmiAmi had only one of these in stock, so it's clear that they didn't send me the wrong item; maybe someone just mistyped the product grade/description...

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/victorviper1517367858.jpeg

I'm not sure what you're really supposed to do with this, as it's rather humongous, and I don't think the figure is meant to be displayed sitting on it, so after I assembled it to take a couple of photos, I promptly disassembled it and stashed it in the box, where it fit nicely. Maybe some employee at AmiAmi didn't want to deal with it and said, eh, "just give it a C-grade and wrap the box and that thing together in plastic"...

Although my initial assessment is that her quality is merely OK, Kurumi is quite cute. The bikini+the plaid skirt (one of Kantoku's trademarks) is a neat look, and the stars in her hair almost give her a mahou shoujo look.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/image/victorviper1517367862.jpeg

(mildly NSFW image behind the spoiler tag)

With the addition of Kurumi, my Kantoku figure sub-collection doubled in size, as she joins Mimi ITEM #144280 which is itself sort of a neat figure.

So that's it for January's loot, and as always...

THANKS FOR READING!

POLL TIME!!!

I took advantage of some end-of-year sales, and while I don't buy nearly as much anime on physical media as I once did, I still partake in the occasional Blu-Ray/DVD. Thus, the question is...

Maakie (6 месяцев назад) #31477580I'm actually not sure if Future Rin is popular enough in Japan to get a figure soon, but I definitely see a Sweet Magic Rin happening! :)

I hope so, since I just love that song, and Rin is so cute in the promo video. *Hums pa pa rappa pa pa pa pa rappa rappa pa*

victorviper (6 месяцев назад) #31420190I'm hoping that eventually someone will do a figure of Rin in her "Future Style" module. Long hair is such a good look for Rin!
Her "Magic Chef" module from the song Sweet Magic would also be awesome, as that's one of my favorite Rin songs.

SEGA has made a couple of Rins and I hope they keep up with releasing one every now and then. Vocaloid in general has way too many cute outfits and characters!

victorviper (6 месяцев назад) #31413886I wish Sega would make more Rin figures. I can think of so many modules that need to be realized in figure form!

Luckily ITEM #675855 is announced, I think she looks adorable! :) Although the twins would have probably been better of to be prizes with these...kinda simple outfits. Not sure if that one would be worth your money full price with the prizes of scaled figures nowadays.

ChocolateSpider (7 месяцев назад) #31042714This is such a cute loot. I especially like that Clow Book. :D

Thanks :). Not long ago, after reading this BLOG #38808 post, I thought to myself how I really should have gotten a Clow Book when I had the chance, and then a few days later this showed up on AmiAmi!

Ciciely (7 месяцев назад) #31016882I only recently started buying anime on blu-ray, only buying my absolute favorite series though. Streaming is enough for me otherwise.

Yeah, that kind of describes me, too. It used to be that I bought a lot of DVD's, but sometimes you'd be out $25 for a 3-episode disc that just wasn't very good. Today, I'll preview lots of series by streaming, and then only buy those select series that I want to make sure I have access to for perpetuity.
