MP-EVA model kit special paint!MP-EVA model kit special paint!

MoroMoro3 года назадDiary
Hello all! I finished building my LM-HG Mass-Production EVA model kit a few days ago, and I thought I would share.
I redid various parts of it multiple times, and there are still parts I’m not all that happy with, but there always comes a point with model kits where you just have to force yourself to stop fucking with it and call it finished. And overall I am very happy with the results.

I already have 9 Revoltech Mass-Production EVAs, so I bought the model kit with the intent to do something special with it and not just a straight build.
After some consideration I decided to paint it to match this (only briefly seen during Instrumentality):

First a few notes on process: for areas to be painted, I first sprayed with Tamiya Fine Surface Primer, then painted by hand (I don't like airbrushes) with acrylic paints. The wings took the longest, as you'd probably expect, and were carefully hand-painted without the use of a stencil or masking.
Panel lining was done with an extra-fine Gundam marker or in a few places, with black acrylic paint and an incredibly thin brush. The kit came with some stickers, but I didn't use any of them.

So, here is the final result!

At the moment, the finished kit is standing on my desk, but I’m planning to hang it from the ceiling with fishing line so that its wings are really visible. It's really a fairly large kit, especially its wings, as you can see in this picture where I have compared it to a can of soda:
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/Moro1427660403.jpeg

I will say it's not a very poseable kit. Partly it's the huge wings getting in the way, but it just doesn't have very many movable areas, and there's no way to attach it to a base even if it had come with one. I tried a few more dynamic poses and only this one looked that good. It's a very old model kit and it shows. But for my purposes, I don't require flexibility from it anyway.

By the way, I dread the time I decide to do another model with a lot of white on it...oh god, every speck of dust and cat fuzz and paint debris and everything showed up so well and stuck to the plastic, I was constantly brushing at it to keep it clean while I worked. Let this be a warning to anyone building a kit that has a lot of white, it can be aggravating!
The kit also came with a tiny Kaji and tiny Asuka figure, but while I primed them I haven't painted either of them yet, don't know if I will or not.

Anyway, I hope you liked the pictures! My next post will be the much-awaited showcase/review of the Evangelion Exhibition/Eva Store exclusive figure set, with my special customized display.

ODJ (3 года назад) #3929094Nice work! Working on this model right now (among a ton of others, hehe). I might need to do that underwing styling from the animation. Although I was a big confused when searching because this is Eva-05 which is LG-HG 008
Thank you! I'd never seen anyone paint ANY MP-EVAs like this previously, so I was that much more interested in doing it myself. I like doing Eva things that others haven't already done.
Well, the Eva Series/Mass-Production Evas are EVA-05 through EVA-13 if you really get down to it. It's just LM-HG-008 because it was presumably the 8th kit in that series.

Moro (3 года назад) #2878393(lmao somehow I didn't see this comment until just now go me) Thanks! :> Yes, you should finish your GK! What GK are you building? I'm about to start working on mine, got my grail, the Lina Inverse CharaGumin from Volks. All the fun parts of GK building without the frustrating parts, imo.
Thanks~ I just really don't like airbrushes. I never feel like I have enough control over where the paint is going. I prefer the complete control of taking a thin brush and painting exact details. Besides, they're so messy, and that fine mist really aggravates my lung problems even when doing it outside.
This bit isn't even on screen for more than about 45 seconds IIRC. So it's not surprising that you don't remember it. It's a tiny portion of the Instrumentality sequence, probably why I'd never seen anyone else do something with that imagery.
Oh, the reason the MP-EVAs are able to get back up and perform the ritual of Instrumentality is because their cores (internal S2 engines) weren't destroyed. Their bodies were heavily damaged, but since their S2 engines were intact, they didn't die.
I'm hoping to have that post up sometime this weekend! Got LOTS of pictures to take with 5 figures to review plus the display.

I'm currently working on ITEM #12274 ! So far I prepped and undercoated everything and painted parts of her dress and hair, so I'm not far at all! >.<

Good luck on your Lina! Are you also going to shade her? Or mainly focus on the building part?

Maakie (3 года назад) #2857623Looks really nice! Great job! :) My bf has recently picked up his working on model kits again, so it's fun to watch him too! :) Which reminds me that I should try to make some time to work on my half-finished GK! xD (lmao somehow I didn't see this comment until just now go me) Thanks! :> Yes, you should finish your GK! kevinlowl (3 года назад) #2878374Wow Moro that's some fine work right there! Looks really good given the fact you didn't use an airbrush (sorry, still not convinced on the good ol' paintbrush). Once again I'm amazed by the many little details put into Evangelion. Never seen this scene, or maybe we did but never really took notice of it.
In that screenshot of EoE above, there is a hole in the MP Eva's chest lol. How the hell did they start instrumentality with one of them ripped in half by Asuka? :o
Anyway, looking forward to your next post. Can't wait to see what special custom display you came up with!

takenyaka (3 года назад) #2857597freaking awesome work, I'm really stunned! *Q* Now regret I have no spare mpeva kits to try to do the same, uh huh ;___; thank you a lot for sharing **
Ahh, thank youuu ~<3 I'm really glad you like it, actually you're the only one I specifically linked it to because I really wanted you to see it, heh.

Well, this kit is old, but it's not hard to find nor expensive because it's been reissued quite recently. It's like 2,000 yen most places, sometimes less, so if you did want to pick up another one, it wouldn't be too much.
