CCP Sachiel [Luminescent ver.]CCP Sachiel [Luminescent ver.]

MoroMoro3 года назадReview
Hello all! Today I'm reviewing another Evangelion figure, CCP's Sachiel Luminescent version. He was an Oricon Store exclusive but could be ordered from a few other places, and is identical to the normal version in every way except his eyes and core have a light-up gimmick.

Initially I passed on this figure due to the high price, but I suddenly came across him for a great deal, and after some hesitation I went for it! He was still a pricey figure but I’m really glad I got him. Considering how cool the Evangelion Angels look, there are surprisingly few high-quality figures of them, and most are quite old and can be hard to find. Read on to see if you might want to add this Sachiel to your collection.

Sachiel is the 3rd Angel in Neon Genesis Evangelion canon, and is probably the most familiar in appearance. He is also an Angel whose appearance did not change at all from Neon Genesis Evangelion to the Rebuild of Evangelion movies. Because of his birdlike face, I think he sometimes looks rather cute, but this figure is designed to make him eerie and intimidating. See for yourself!

I was surprised at how light he is. I think he’s likely partially hollow, as he weighs almost nothing for how big he is. The plastic has a unique feel—sort of soft and velvety rather than the usual complete smoothness we’re used to for PVC. I’d be careful about buying an opened one, because it’s softer than usual and might be more susceptible to scratches. Many parts are soft and flexible so snapping isn't as much of a problem, but be very careful with the "ribs". In any case it gives him a nice organic look, though it's a bit harder to convey in photos. There are no seams to be seen and no paint flaws or problems that I could see even on close inspection.

The shading is very detailed, really top notch. I was unfamiliar with CCP, but they certainly did a great job on Sachiel. He seems almost like he could come alive before your eyes. Rather than trying to simply match the anime appearance, CCP took the Angel design and tried to recreate how it might look in real life, with pretty stunning results.

Apologies for some potato pictures, but I really wanted to show off how striking he looks when lit up!

If you can’t quite tell, it’s a strong, solid red light. Rather than needing to manually turn it off, when you turn the lights on they stay lit for about 30 seconds and then turn off automatically. This is good for the longevity of the lights since there’s no chance of leaving them on for a long time by accident. Thankfully the lights are LEDs, so they will last a very long time. The button to activate the lights is hidden in a soft spot between his shoulders and you can feel a little 'click' when you press it.

When unlit, the core is a translucent deep red with iridescent shades of purple. See the comparison:

From some official pictures, it seems the regular version’s core is a more solid bright red since it doesn’t have to let light through. The solid red is more series-accurate, but the iridescent purple-red is neat too. The light-up version is definitely intended with lit display in mind.
He’s VERY big, one of my larger figures and has a very imposing presence. He does come with a little base, but it seems to be a bit generic and he doesn’t need it to stand up anyway. I kept it to use for some other future figure instead.

I think the only other Eva figures with which he would match just right would be CCP’s other Eva figures (Zeruel variants and EVA-01 variants.) For this reason I’m considering picking up one of the versions of EVA-01 even though it’s also on the pricey side. RIP my wallet...

I got lucky with a great deal, but normally the light-up version will cost you a good deal more to get than the standard version, which is not cheap to begin with. I can’t directly compare the two since I don’t own the standard version myself, but really which one you should get depends on how important the light-up gimmick is to you and on whether having the more limited variant matters.
He still looks cool when not lit up, but the color of the normal version’s core is definitely a lot more vivid. If you have the patience and skill, you could probably brighten the light-up version’s core without diluting the light by painting on a layer of transparent red paint, though I haven't done this myself. Neither version is that hard to find, they’re just expensive.
For a hardcore Evangelion fan with a liking for the Angels, he would be a great addition to your collection, but admittedly due to his high price, he probably isn’t worth it to the more casual fan, or if the Angels themselves aren't your thing.

Moro (3 года назад) #2839541Thanks. I'd rather be the only review of something niche than the 8910284951235th review of Ultimate Madoka.

But what if the 8910284951236th review of Ultimate Madoka has better pictures??? I'm joking of course :P But I do wish I had some more free time so I can work on my own reviews again, work is crazy! >.<

bobasenpai (3 года назад) #2807196Perhaps that's the case....I'd have to go with the Rebuild version! It would be cool if it was posed in the phase where the humanoid-bird thing is out and its feathers are stretched!! My favorite redesigned Angel, really...
Yeah that'd be really awesome! I like the NGE design (original series is always my favorite), but its Rebuild redesign is amazing. I made xmas ornaments of both its "floating eye sphere" and "expanded" forms :D

Moro (3 года назад) #2806809Oh, really? In the pictures I looked at, the colors seemed to be the same, but it could have been lighting. Or maybe there's just a wide variation between figures.
Oh WOW, a Sahaquiel would be incredible. It'd have to be like... 1/1000 scale or something though. Massive. Would you want original series Sahaquiel or Rebuild version?

victorviper (3 года назад) #2798657Hmm, what an interesting figure. I didn't know this even existed!
It didn't really get much press, and I see relatively few people on here bought it. I don't know about how well it sold in Japan, but I don't even remember seeing anything about it before it went up for preorder--it and the other Evangelion CCP figures just sort of quietly appeared.

cassopeia (3 года назад) #2798376He's so beautiful, especially when he lights up.
I want to try taking some shots of him lit up in a really dark room, because it's surprising how much illumination those small lights give him.
