! This is a review of a figure in a swimsuit, it can be considered NSFW ! And my apologies for some unsharp photo's in this review, I'm using old pictures! ^-^''

Welcome to my review! Today I will be talking about a figure of Uiharu Kazari ENCYCLOPEDIA #3976 from the series To Aru Kagaku no Railgun ENCYCLOPEDIA #206 ! This figure is made by SEGA ENCYCLOPEDIA #7642 and shows Kazari in her swimsuit. ITEM #63222

I will start off with telling some more about her background.

Background

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun also known under the English name A Certain Scientific Railgun started off as a light novel, that was later turned into a manga and an anime. Because of the popularity of the series, some games were released also.

The series takes place in a world where supernatural abilites exist and follows multiple characters that are students at Academy City. Uiharu Kazari is one of those students, she is very shy and sometimes a bit of an airhead.

The reason why and how I got her

I saw this figure for sale on a local forum for a good price, so I couldn't resist! That's a problem I have with a lot of my prize figures! Haha! Ah-hahHaHa... :I

Original art

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-OmjpxNY_Z7Y/UsAhjRJtaZI/AAAAAAAAFPQ/mpQA52G98tM/s300/images1OYSSMV2.jpg

There are multiple appearences of Kazari in this specific swimsuit, but there is no direct artwork (with posing) where this figure was made after.

Looking at the detailing and coloring of her swimsuit, it's exactly the same on the figure.

The Box

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-FdqZhl-FoMI/UsAeN0qNhOI/AAAAAAAAFLE/XvBG9pW-UFM/s640/IMG_8941.JPG

The box shows some stylised artwork of palm trees and a beach. There is only one window on the box, which is a big one at the front, giving a good view of the figure.

First Look

And now, out of the box!

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-dpzNlhBflGs/UsAePYvToPI/AAAAAAAAFLM/T8mOqMm4BR4/s640/IMG_8942.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-PVlxrp5wwO0/UsAeRPKgoPI/AAAAAAAAFLU/noqh_RsFCOY/s640/IMG_8943.JPG

*Plop* Well, this happened to me a few times before... (example: PICTURE #670376 )

Kazari's box has a full back blister and only a small front blister. This means she is safe when in the box, but when taken outside the box, the protection easily falls apart. Her base is directly placed behind her in the box.

The Figure

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-vpzovXJRWI8/UsAeTWK76dI/AAAAAAAAFLk/yJx_o7WLwew/s800/IMG_8944.JPG

This figure consists of 2 parts: the base and the main figure.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Y5-lOMJmS7A/UsAeS1V1gHI/AAAAAAAAFLg/UqSIyBtY_t8/s640/IMG_8945.JPG

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-FY_LJt2qWAw/UsAeWhknXOI/AAAAAAAAFL4/II17QSoLhnw/s640/IMG_8947.JPG

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-B--DfzW3Mk8/UsAeXLyf1AI/AAAAAAAAFL8/H9CBRAkRxc0/s640/IMG_8948.JPG

First impression: What a cutie! And her details look good from from here! There is a small point that annoys me though, and that is that I couldn't put her pegs completely in her base.

Looking at all the details!

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-TEnlgAPfuTM/UsAecHXXGcI/AAAAAAAAFMY/4mjKUxP2ikg/s800/IMG_8951.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-C8Vprl7uVgA/UsAeZsiYaVI/AAAAAAAAFME/FoQKGxrHFLk/s800/IMG_8949.JPG

Kazari has a small, shy smile on her face. Her eyes and blushes are decals and are very detailed. A small amount of paint near her mouth gives the mouth more depth. There was also a small underlip sculpted. Overall the detailing in her face is quite good for a prize figure!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Av57bX52bwY/UsAebpAwcaI/AAAAAAAAFMQ/uYS30jeFwE4/s800/IMG_8950.JPG

On top of her head she wears her characteristic flower band. The sculpting was done quite nicely, but from up close you can see some mistakes in the paint.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-d1o4XoZkZhw/UsAecp0nm3I/AAAAAAAAFMc/F39ZcxDTDB4/s800/IMG_8952.JPG

The detailing in her short hair is very high, it looks very good! For painting they didn't use any shading, but the color that is there is very clean looking.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-g4101YMZHvU/UsAeeZo20sI/AAAAAAAAFMw/Fxa50eIAtSY/s640/IMG_8953.JPG

And now, onto her swimsuit! It's a very cute one! What catches my attention is the flower-pattern, which are nicely put on decals. After that, my attention goes to the ribbon which is...a bit blotchy, but still acceptable looking.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Z6Nh_p1P3tA/UsAed5MBLeI/AAAAAAAAFMs/Vpeau7tAvvM/s800/IMG_8954.JPG

The layers at the bottom of the swimsuit are nicely sculpted, but from up close show some painting flaws. This didn't let me down, since I expected this beforehand (it's quite intricate sculpting and prize figures are known for having painting flaws on especially higher detailed parts).

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-wLN-YbjdXwc/UsAeeWMxsZI/AAAAAAAAFM0/OQ4ALQJlgfQ/s640/IMG_8955.JPG

On her back are two crossed straps. They look a bit blotchy, just like the ribbon. From this angle, you have a cute (teasing) view of her behind, which in my opinion is quite good sculpted!

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-z6e-JRISUU4/UsAefTsmQkI/AAAAAAAAFM8/lIeUfr6HKfg/s800/IMG_8956.JPG

The back of the swimsuit has the same small painting mistakes as the front. As for the connection from her legs to her lower body, with my specific copy of this figure a lot of glue was used, leaving a stain on her behind and some dried glue near her thighs. Quite a downside, but I'm sure not all copies of this figure have this.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PS2RCYb_fvA/UsAegPhifGI/AAAAAAAAFNQ/zezNHGr42iM/s800/IMG_8957.JPG

As for a front "panty"-shot, it's quite hard to make one since the float ring obstructs most of the view.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-VZNLL_UbZr4/UsAegfpvu7I/AAAAAAAAFNM/-xPRBpqdOUU/s640/IMG_8958.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-VKxbs9MVVAc/UsAeg-elRtI/AAAAAAAAFNk/Kj_00_xjRMs/s640/IMG_8959.JPG

Both of Kazari's hands have the exact same posing (got to say that I have never seen that before on a figure!). The three fingers in the middle are all one piece and look a bit weird, but the posing of the other fingers make up for it. Especially if you look from a distance at this figure, it looks like she is really holding up the float ring.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-WXgG5WC_OBk/UsAehwNtTiI/AAAAAAAAFNc/EU4DjpCC3YM/s640/IMG_8960.JPG

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Eq82qoganRY/UsAeibbCUnI/AAAAAAAAFNg/yML7ApV0BlQ/s640/IMG_8961.JPG

Her arms, have just like the rest of her skin color only one shade, but it's looking good, although a bit shiny. I do have to point out here that there are no visible seamlines on the arms and only some small seamlines on her body. (Which is very good since big seamlines seem to be a common problem with prize figures I own.)

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-w0LujUoIJSg/UsAelIgM3jI/AAAAAAAAFN8/f2K-RhtaR9E/s800/IMG_8962.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-3hr7a6h_0Rk/UsAekJ0gXaI/AAAAAAAAFNw/KX8jS71yl_c/s640/IMG_8963.JPG

Kazari's float ring looks great! In my opinion it's also the biggest eye-catcher of this figure. The float ring is orange and has a see-through effect. On the seams of the float ring, they even made it completely transparant, like how a real float ring looks!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-AhGAkOhfMEs/UsAekUL06KI/AAAAAAAAFN4/z_5UhafGuIo/s640/IMG_8964.JPG

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-oMJg1fGgrDE/UsAemd0Sh5I/AAAAAAAAFOE/3lzXlib9-qI/s640/IMG_8965.JPG

Sorry for the out of focus pictures.

Kazari's legs are posed in a shy position, just like her expression. There are some details in the sculpt here, such as the backside of her knees.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-0E4lKGQiGiY/UsAepu-2ePI/AAAAAAAAFOY/1irpjiAMZMc/s800/IMG_8966.JPG

Kazari's toes are all one piece, but the toes have been sculpted. There is also the small detail of visible ankles.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-P9VatGVzRE8/UsAeov9CENI/AAAAAAAAFOM/oRl-MzvGUKo/s800/IMG_8967.JPG

A big downside of this figure for me is how the pegs underneath her feet don't fit the base well. No matter how much I forced it, this was the best I got. Maybe in the future I will try to cut them smaller myself, to try to get a bitter fit.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-LOpQJvMuot8/UsAesOK9ZqI/AAAAAAAAFOk/4rcw4UmOsQ4/s800/IMG_8969.JPG

Kazari's base is very good looking! There are even small footprints sculpted in the sand!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-qcRzAOuUJP8/UsAeqYIse8I/AAAAAAAAFOc/c0eNYDURRr4/s800/IMG_8968.JPG

The water/sea effect looks great from afar, but from up-close you can see it was airbrushed quite roughly and it easily gets scratches.

Summary or tl;dr

Positive
- High amount of detailing in sculpt for a prize figure (base, face, legs, swimsuit itself).
- Not much seamlines.
- Float ring looks great!

Neutral
- Simple box design.
- Some painting details were not done very nicely (flowerband, bottom of swimsuit).
- Nice base design, but looks rough from up-close.

Negative
- Some glue stains and leftovers were on my specific copy of this figure.
- Pegs don't fit her base very well.

The Scores

Sculpting 8/10
There are quite some great features to point out here: unexpected details such as her base and her face, but there are also some downsides, such as unfitting pegs.

Painting 7/10
Quite some mistakes at places, but overall very acceptable for a prize figure.

Posing 8/10
Simple, but in-character and very cute!

Base 8/10
Quite interesting compared to other beach bases: Great detailing in the sand, but the sea/water-part is quite badly painted from up-close.

Packaging 7/10
Packaging what is to be expected from a prize figure. One window, enough blisters, not much special to mention.

Enjoyment 8/10
I got her for a good price and she is super-cute!

Conclusion
Painting is what to be expected for a prize figure, but some unexpected details make her above average for a figure that goes for this price! If you're a fan of cute beach figures or of Kazari herself and can find her for a good price, I would defenitely recommend her!

And to finish it!

Here is how she stands in my current collection!

She's having a nice place on my shelf with beach figures. :)

victorviper6 лет назад#1918939People seem to like that Koto figure (I guess because of the seated pose and because she's holding her laptop), but I think the Alter Uiharu ITEM #42027 is hands down the winner in terms of Uiharu-cuteness. It's pretty easy to find, too.

Well, I got to say Alters's Uiharu is also veryyyy tempting to me. xD You can expect a great expression and quality from Alter, but I think the overall design is just a bit too simple. The Koto one is way more special I think. I mean, I don't own a scaled figure that is seated or with a laptop! So it's quite a rare pose and that uniqueness that tempts me! (Although Alter's detailing is probably way better compared to Koto's Uiharu.)

I do have to agree there, Alter's Uiharu I see for sale quite a lot, while I think I didn't ever see Koto's up somewhere...

Roxannas6 лет назад#1919541Uiharu looks so cute! The figure looks very good even though it's only a prize figure.
By the way, "A Certain Magical Index" isn't the English name for, "Toaru Kagaku no Railgun". The actual translation is, "A Certain Scientific Railgun". Railgun is a spin-off manga based off of the Index light novels.

Ah! *A* I edited it! xD Thanks for pointing out!

And I defenitely recommend this figure if you're fan of this series or character or just cute beach girls in general and find her for a good price. :)

Sethy6 лет назад#1918703Looking at her from a distance she completely stands out, in a good way mind you.
The flower band and the tube really make for that playful character she has going on.
Despite the minor paint flukes you mentioned she is a nice figure to look at definitely.
Those pegs on her feet, I personally hate those since most of the time they just won't go down that far enough to make them invisible when you have the figure all set up.
That collection picture at the end: it really goes to show how much she stands out with her color scheme and her beach base.
I say: good review! Can't wait to see more.

Especially from a distance: she is great!

And yeah, I have multiple figures with pegs like that. :( I have seen tutorials of people scraping a bit of PVC off the pegs to make sure they would fit the base, but I'm afraid she maybe becomes unstable because of that. D: So I'm doubting if I want to try something like that...

She really stands out from my other beach figures (which are all high quality scaleds except for Hideyoshi). For me it's mainly the base, pool toy and her flower band grabbing the attention.

And thank you very much~! ^w^ I hope you like me next review as well!

victorviper6 лет назад#1918872Sega prizes have been getting better during the last few years, but she really has a lot of flaws (especially how she doesn't quite fit on her base!). She does look pretty good at a distance, though.
The figure is kind of cute, but Uiharu is adorable almost beyond belief, so it's almost guaranteed to be cute.

From a distance and also being inbetween mostly scaled beach figures on my shelf, she looks great! It's mainly painting errors (and the peg-problem) that become visible when you see her from up close. >.<

As for Uiharu and her cuteness...I have been looking at ITEM #54836 for a long time...would love to own that one someday! :3
