Or another one: Will a guy buy the same clothes as a girl? Does it make sense to not start targeting a potential group of fans? (Potential customers, building up...)
GSC does or can do similar things with their exclusive lines, where they sell themselves with no loss (no retailers in-between).
    And...no risk no gain.
Yeah, and you never see men in swimming trunks (even pretty small ones) on the beach, on magazine covers...? And never a guy without a shirt in Summer?
And how many figures with guys in swimming gear are out there? How many scantily dressed boys? All I found are expensive. And not all bikini-girls sell well. Figure companies didn't try to sell too many men until recently.
As I already said: It didn't have to be fundoshi, just something less girly. I personally didn't like the fundoshis, but I don't think it's something to make fun off. It just wasn't funny. Somebody mentioned Native made a joke about a naked fish-figure. That's what I would have considered funny.

But by Mamitan asking for people to retweet, isn't that the company testing the market as you're talking about? And yet people still have an issue with it?

And to try to explain what I meant in the line you quoted, for example, a lot of people bought Pokémon Red. But just because he is a male nendoroid and a lot of people purchased him, GSC is supposed to take that to mean a lot of people want to buy extra male oriented clothing pieces for it? No, because many people (male and female) just bought it because they loved the Pokémon franchise and that is it. Same goes for the Kirito nendoroid, which also sold well. Yes, there could be a chance that people would like to change his outfit, but its a good chance that a good many just bought it for their love of the character and to see it in action poses. It takes up resources and workers' time, which costs them money, to make these things. I can see them not wanting to waste it on an assumption, and instead try to gauge fans' reactions subtly, which wouldn't leave them backed into a corner if they determine that producing those items would not be cost effective. And even if they knew that people wanted accessories for their male nendos, how can they be sure that fundoshi would be included in that? They don't know any of that unless we tell them. That is all I meant by my post.

As for whether the joke was funny or not, I guess we all just have a different sense of humor.

vandra (2 года назад) #2857636GSC is a company and therefore probably knows how well things sell. Not only from their own stock, but from other companies too. Otherwise it'd be a bit strange...
From my perspective it looks like male nendos don't sell too bad, at least the recent ones (looking at the prices of e.g. Aoba, Sendou Aichi, and the craze about the new sword-boys (you don't do a nendoroid pouch in that style suddenly if he was not sucessful)
Same goes for revealing figures - Free! and the huge success. Add in the female bloggers representing GSC and you have me puzzled how it could have slipped their minds that male accessories would be a good idea.
But no, instead they do a really bad April Fool's Joke, expecting all to be happy about it while it is pretty obvious that it may leave a bitter afertaste when they have just recently released their revealing Nendoroid-plus-bikini-versions. Normally you don't make a joke out of something that is realistic...there's even a naked chibi-version of Sindbad in that shape (so it's not that far-fetched).
That's not even near-sighted, it's blind - not promoting the idea, but introducing it as a joke. Something to laugh about in the first place. That discredits the idea from the start / leaves a strange afterimage.
And they didn't even have to start with a fundoshi, but with something less female-chesty-oriented.

You're taking it as "well this sells well, so it should be obvious that item 'Y' will sell as well". But if that was the case, every business would automatically be sucessful, which we know is not the case. Such as with fast food restaurants, just because they know people like sandwiches as they sell them all the time, doesn't mean that if they put out a new type of burger it will sell high as well, which is why you see even long established chains like McDonalds and Burger King testing out new ones in small sample populations first. Same goes for clothing and other things. Just because i bought a shirt last month, doesnt mean i am going to buy a skirt or purse to match it next month, which is why a lot of stores rotate their merchandise through different locations.

As for it being in poor taste, i don't see it that way. Open a magazine, go to the beach, turn on the tv and you see a girl in a bikini. That is realistic, but how many times do you see guys standing around in traditional Japanese underwear? Besides, with pranks like that, you tend to want to add a bit of realism to things, all the more to "fool" the person with it. And no matter how we look at it, girls in bathing suits/underwear seems to always have more items out/sell well better than the reverse (there's a lot of theory as to why that is, but I rather not go into that), so I see why they went that route.

Either way you see it, i see no point in getting angry over it. We have a chance now to voice to them what we want, let's take it and hope we can get it.

People are angry as if the company should automatically know what they want. But we humans tend to have a world view of what is directly around us, not taking into account that just because there is a following for such things on this board that it would automatically be the case for GSC buyers as a whole. So let's please not let our annoyance at them get in the way of our chance when we have it.

How I see it is they used April fools day as an opportunity to promote this.
View spoilerHide spoilerPeople at GSC actually MADE the prototype, its not just some photoshop prototype ! ... Going through all that trouble just for April fools joke ? Well, you ain't fooling me.
People don't like it ? "April fools !"
People like it ? "Really ? good, let's produce it !"
    It's a win-win situation

But don't misunderstand me, just sharing my opinion, and I like this idea very much.

(1st random idea : Picture Iron Man head with this body and it running around yelling "Pepper ! Where is the rest of my suit ?!")

THIS is their April fools joke, probably.

I think it was some kind of confusion on their part, seeing as this new line just started. But yes, this should probably be Nendoroid More. :\

FigureDuchess (2 года назад) #2857277You know... I admit that GSC is already the figure company I hate most in this hobby...
But they seriously got me with that. A few Nendos are the only things I still own from GSC and I would have seriously loved this. I would have bought the sh** out of this.
And then it turned out a "joke"....
Not only is this not anywhere near funny, it's also disappointing, infuriating, and insulting to the female fanbase. It's also incredibly sexist. "Female bikini bodies? Pre-order here you go! Male bodies? Oh you, pfff get real, OF COURSE not gonna happen"...
And what's with Mamitan's tweet? "Super long shot"..super long shot? I am 100% sure this would be sold out the moment pre-orders opened.
But it just contributes to my theory that GSC is atm so narrow-minded and hype-oriented that they have absolutely no idea what would actually sell besides Miku and Madoka...
Yes, I'm ranting and I'm butthurt and I'm a GSC-hater but this pisses me off a great deal and I needed to vent...
I'm still gonna buy it if they decide to be a generous god and release it... don't you dare be exclusive or limited or some kind of bs....god I hate them.... /rant

    This. This. This.
